Simple Lasagna

This weekend, we decided to try something not so healthy, Shimin got a simple recipe from Sylvia and we pulled information from a few other sources. Here goes.

Recipe (serves 3)

1. 200g cottage cheese
2. 200g mozzarella cheese (shredded)
3. 75g cheddar cheese (shredded)
4. 350g beef
5. 1 large can tomato base pasta sauce (we used Prego)
6. Some mixed vegetables
7. 1 egg
8. 200g lasagna sheets (we used Barilla)

  • Heat some olive oil in a pan and fry the meat and mixed vegetables until dry. You can add a bit of Worcester or HP sauce. Mixed in the tomato sauce. This is known as the red sauce.
  • Mix the egg with the cottage cheese. This is known as the white sauce.
  • Grease a baking tray with butter or olive oil. (We used Corning Ware as we did not have a baking tray). Start layering in the order - red, pasta, red, white, mozzarella, pasta, red, white, mozzarella, pasta, red, white.

  • Finally, top it with mozzarella and cheddar. Cover with aluminum foil.
  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees and heat the lasagna for 45 minutes.
  • In the last 10 minutes, remove the aluminum foil so that the cheese will be slightly burnt.

The lasagna turned out pretty well. It was not too cheesy or salty. Just about right for me. It is also fairly easy as you do not need to cook the lasagna sheets.
