2nd consultation
Went for the second consultation today... not much happened.... just the ultrascan and Q&A. Baby grew to 20.2mm according to the ultrascan.... the left is probably where the head is....

First Gifts!
Yesterday was a farewell party for Tammie who's leaving for Scotland... and guess what? She brought over some gifts for the baby.... glass bottles, maternity clothes, pacifiers, Bach CDs... and hey, what's in that pink box?

Oooooh.... 3 baby Gap pink outfits (Tammie says that it will be a girl) from Noah.... cool!

Well... here's Tammie and Noah....
Sidenote... being typical Singaporeans... after the announcement of Shimin's pregnancy, they have started to bet on whether it will be a guy or a girl. Apparently, loser will host the baby shower....
Boy - Kenlun, Jessie, Lingling
Girl - Petrina, Jenny

VIP treatment
Ok, we made the announcement to Shimin's parents a couple of days ago. Dad didn't say anything at all but mum was obviously happy. So National Day passed with not much happening except fireworks; loads of people in red and funny seaworld costume that might have been left behind by Disney on Ice's Finding Nemo.
Today, Shimin got a call from her mum asking her not to wash the car and let her know whatever she feels like eating.... hmm.... someone's getting VIP treatment already. What this means is that we are going will be eating Pork Chops with Tomato Sauce every week and driving a fairly dirty car...

Traditions and Superstitions
Made the announcement to my parents today..... not too big a reaction from them (Wow! Congrats!) but they looked pretty happy. Later in the afternoon, my mum called me and told me from now on, we should avoid nailing anything or moving furniture about. Guess this is the beginning of another round of superstitions that we have to deal with (the last one was our wedding).
Apparently, hammering and sawing could lead to miscarriage or fetal deformities. Our trust is in the Lord and we know that He will give us a beautiful and perfect baby, so we do not really believe any of these. But in the spirit of harmony, we will try our best to avoid it. I heard there is one where the pregnant woman has to sleep with a knife under her pillow to ward of evil spirits! Well, one day, if people call me Scar Face, you know why.
Anyway, next up, we will be breaking the news to Shimin's parents.... let's see what happens.

Ultrascans, Yolk Sacs and Thalassameia
After a bit of research on which gynae to go to... we decided on Dr Joycelyn Wong of ACJ clinic despite the strong recommendations of W K Tan from P&G colleagues (she's rather expensive). Got there around 4:45pm (5pm appointment) and had to wait around an hour before seeing her.
Rather nice and reassuring lady... first thing to do was an Ultrascan to confirm the pregnancy. So she scanned and we saw the water bag (big black dot) and within the black dot... a white dot (baby!). So our baby's around 2.1mm which is normal.

The doc went on about the risks, what to do and eat, what not to do and also the various tests that we must and should do. There is one blood test that requires a blood sample from the father and I got pricked.
Total cost for the visit is around $152 (ex GST) for consultation, medication (folic acid and multi-vits), ultrascan, urine test and my blood test.
